Located 5 miles north of Arcata lays McKinleyville. Home of the California Redwood Coast — Humboldt County Airport this small town is actually the 3rd largest in Humboldt County. McKinleyville sits atop a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. With its close
proximity to beaches, rivers, and trails as well as shops and restaurants, McKinleyville offers many opportunities for fun and interesting things to do.
The most popular feature of McKinleyville is the Hammond Trail. This 5-mile trail winds along the coastline from the Mad River at the south of town up to Clam Beach in the north. The trail offers amazing vistas and great opportunities for bird watching.
Harbor seals and whales can be spotted from the trail at certain times of the year also. This is a great trail to bike, walk, or ride horses.

containing yet more beautiful coastal trails. Azalea State Natural Reserve is another great park for trails and picnicking. During spring the pink and white blossoms of the western azalea fill this 30-acre reserve. Clam Beach County Park just north is an expansive
beach great for clamming, fishing, horseback riding, or simply beachcombing. Additionally, McKinleyville’s Beau Pre Golf Club is an 18-hole championship golf course with beautiful fairways and views of the Pacific.
